This material is the first part of the Montessori Blue Reading Series. The Blue Reading Series materials contain words with consonant blends, beginning of words and short vowels (bl-, br-, cl-, cr-, dr-, fl-, fr, gl-, gr-, pl-, pr-, sc-, sk-, sl-, sm-, sn-, sp-, st-, sw-, tr-, tw-), and consonant blends, ending of words and short vowels (-ct, -ft, -ld, -lk, -lm, -lp, -lt, -mp, -nd, -nk, -pt, -sk, -sp, -st, -lch, -tch, -nch.)
The Blue Series contains consonant blends words. The Blue series is introduced through the 5 following incremental and/or concurrent steps:
1. Moveable Alphabet with objects or pictures
2. Word labels with pictures
3. Sentence labels with pictures
4. Booklets
5. Word Lists
“Consonant Blend Picture Cards” is used in step 1. Children are provided opportunities to encode consonant blend words using picture cards and the Moveable Alphabet.
