Description
These materials are part of the Early Childhood Montessori math curriculum. By the age of three, children are quite adept at one-to-one correspondence, the foundational concept for “number.” These mathematics activities are organized in a logical, progressive order. Children are first introduced to the materials for number works 1–10. After mastering the numbers 1–10, they begin the decimal system through the bead materials. A child may be introduced concurrently to the teens and tens through linear counting exercises. Over time, and with the sensorial experience of the bead work, children begin working with the beads in combination with the boards. The latter exercises combine the concrete materials with the symbolic representations. Classic Montessori Mathematics Materials consist of the Numeral Rods, Sandpaper Numerals, Spindle Box, Numerals and Counters, Teen Board – symbols, Teen Board – quantities and symbols, and Hundred Board.
