Description

This material is part of the Elementary Montessori history curriculum. Children are introduced to different calendar pages for the months of the year. They learn that the Romans had a ten-month calendar. In the eighth century B.C. their calendar was expanded to twelve months. In 47 B.C., Julius Ceasar expanded the calendar to 365 days in a year, with an extra day added in February every fourth year. Following the presentation of the Months of the Year classified nomenclature material, children are provided follow-up activities such as the “Calendar.” It consists of a control and work chart that can be introduced for the abbreviations, number of days, and etymology of each month.
