Description
This material is part of the Early Childhood Montessori geography curriculum. Children in the Montessori classroom are given the whole of a concept, then are gradually introduced to its parts. They are first familiarized with continents and oceans using the Globe, and the Hemisphere Puzzle Map. Later, children engage in studying each continent and their countries, in association with their flags. For instance, North and Central America Flags consists of 11 sets of three-part nomenclature cards. Prior to using the Nomenclature cards, Children are introduced to the flags using the Hemisphere Puzzle Map and flags on a stand. They are invited to go fetch a flag from the shelf, and match it to the outline of the corresponding country. Later, children transition from this concrete approach to a more abstract approach using the nomenclature cards. Flags of the World Complete Set consists of 219 three-part card sets. Each card includes a map of the continent with the country highlighted that corresponds to the flag depicted. Black outlined masters are included.
