Description

This material is part of the Elementary Montessori history curriculum. Children become acquainted to humans tendencies and needs throughout time, which Dr. Montessori separated into two territories: material and spiritual. All people have a common need: the desire to survive. This desire for survival determines identical needs, common to all people: material needs having to do with physical well-being in all its aspects, and spiritual needs having to do with discovering the reason for human existence. Fundamental Needs of Humans provides children with an insightful experience on ways humans have satisfied these needs. The material leads children exploring human tendencies and needs through the life of early humans, five cradle civilizations (Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient India, Ancient China, Ancient Aztec), and two western civilizations (Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome.) The material consists of a timeline, and 80 sets of three-part cards (240 cards total) depicting the following needs: medicine, water transportation, land transportation, shelter, food, defense, clothing, communication.
